When I visit the beach it is usually en-route to somewhere else. As a self employed consultant I often only have a few minutes between visits to grab a few frames. With such time constraints I can’t really do much about the content of the beach. I can’t wait for visitors to move away. The shot above shows what I normally see as I look down from the dunes to the beach and beyond. It’s a mess! There are cars with boots open and vans – they just don’t make for an inviting image! My solution doesn’t involve anything more than a vertical shift.
Crouch down a couple of feet from a natural standing position and all the messy vehicles are hidden behind the dunes. The downside is that you get a thinner slice of beach, but if you want to give the impression of unspoilt space even when there’s people on your favourite beach, just think about crouching for that clean shot – you’ll be amazed at the results!
